Recently Moved? 3 Things To Check Before You Settle Into Your New Home

The offer has been accepted, the dates have been set, boxes have been packed and the contract and keys exchanged - all that is left is the move and unpacking.

Although there are plenty of guides available which help with planning your move to a new house , there are not many that guide what to consider after you have moved. If you have just moved into a new home and are wondering what you need to sort, aside from unpacking, here is a checklist of things to do after settling in your new house.
Getting the keys to a new home

Update Your Details

Once you have moved, there are a few administration tasks that need to be completed. For instance, updating your address for things such as bank statements, bills, electoral register. In addition to this, you will also need to register at your local doctor and dentist, and if you have any pets, you will need to register them at your local vets.

Whilst you might not need the doctors, for the time being, registering yourself after you have moved means you do not have to waste time registering when you need the doctors. Also, it provides you with peace of mind that there is one less job to complete.

Test The Electrics

Even though testing the electrics might not seem like an obvious choice and you may question why you need to perform an electrical test , however, it will provide you with peace of mind that the electrics in the property are fine. You may want to hire a qualified electrician to test all the electrics in the house to ensure there are no nasty surprises or potential hazards that are hard to spot to the untrained eye.

Sort The House Utilities

After moving into a new property, the chances that you know everything about the property are slim. You might not know who the current electricity, gas and water suppliers for the property are. Following the big moving day, aside from unpacking, one of the tasks that should be at the top of your priorities list is sorting out all of the utilities. This means taking the readings for the utility meters to ensure that you do not get overcharged on your first bill. After spending time learning what meters you have in your property and the current suppliers, you will want to take on the tedious task of seeing if there are better tariffs available to switch to.

Aside from the gas, electric and water bills, there is also the task of sorting your broadband and phone line in your new property.
