Best Conversion Projects to Maximise your Living Space

You spend a lot of time in your home, so it is essential that the space meets your needs. Moving house can be a stressful and expensive experience that many homeowners are keen to avoid. Instead, consider converting your existing space to better suit your living situation.

Here are some projects you could consider undertaking to make family life a bit easier.

Loft conversions

Many UK homeowners will know someone who has converted their loft to add to their living space. Whilst the exact price does vary, the basic price starts at around £22,500. Knowing how much to budget for is important before beginning the project.

As the loft is at the top of your house, there are more options to add space. Dormer conversions, for example, are where the rear slope of the roof is removed, and the space is built up from the wall to create a box shape on the roof. Alternatively, Mansard conversions are favoured over dormers in certain cities due to their design.

Garage conversions

Garages are great spaces that are often under utilised. Although they are designed for cars, they can also be turned into perfect living spaces. Due to the size, there are many options for conversion. If the garage is attached to the home, you could consider knocking through and having an open-plan living space.

Some garages are disconnected from the house and some homeowners don't want open-plan spaces. In this case, why not turn the garage into a hobby or work area? This can free up space in your home and eliminate multi-purpose rooms, making bedrooms more relaxing places.

Conservatories and extensions

A larger-scale extension is a popular choice as well. Conservatories or sunrooms are a relatively simple way to extend your downstairs space whilst allowing lots of natural light in.

Double-storey extensions are chosen by many families. Not only are you able to add living space downstairs, but bedrooms are usually the addition upstairs. It is worth noting that this type of project is expensive as well as being lengthy. Knowing this can help you prepare your household for disruption.

Campervan conversions

Whilst conservatories, garage conversions and loft conversions are fairly standard, there are projects you can take on that are less conventional but just as effective.

You can also utilise your mobile home when you are taking a break from travelling in your permanent home. At Christmas, for example, you can have people stay in the van as an extra bedroom. This enables you to keep family and friends as close as possible. Make sure you have motorhome insurance, though, to keep your van protected whether you are on the road or parked at home.

Being able to travel around the country on an ever-lasting adventure is the stuff of dreams. By converting a normal van into a campervan, you can take advantage of mobility and travel wherever you like.
