ECO4, launched in April 2022, is the latest phase of the UK government's commitment to improve residential energy efficiency. Unlike previous versions of the scheme, ECO4 has a broader scope and emphasizes
whole-house solutions rather than isolated energy efficiency improvements.
The grant targets low-income households with poor energy performance, aiming to raise their Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating by providing free or heavily subsidized upgrades.
However, you must first meet the
ECO4 eligibility
criteria to enjoy these benefits. You must:
● Meet income or benefit requirements: ECO4 grant schemes primarily support low-income households and those receiving government benefits such as Universal Credit,
Pension Credit, Income Support, or Housing Benefit.
● Own or rent a property with poor energy efficiency: The scheme prioritizes properties that lack proper insulation, use outdated heating systems, or rely on inefficient
energy sources.
● Live in a home that qualifies for energy efficiency improvements: Private tenants can benefit from ECO4, but they need consent from their landlord for any upgrades.
Meeting these criteria ensures that those who need support can access free or subsidized home improvements.
