Go through all your items and sort them into four categories - keep, donate, recycle, or bin. It's a
tried-and-true method
that really combats the 'analysis paralysis' that can set in when deciding what to do with your possessions - especially sentimental items. But it only really works if you're strict with yourself. If you haven't
used it in a year, do you really need it? And will you ever get around to that hobby that you picked up five years ago? Be realistic.
Don't just hang onto large items that can be donated simply because they're a hassle to transport. But don't put them out on the curb either. UK charities like the British Heart Foundation will collect furniture and
other large goods. If you're recycling items, do so responsibly - look up local council guidelines and check if all materials that make up the item are recyclable. If you're getting rid of electronics, follow the
WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations, which require proper disposal of electronic waste to reduce environmental harm.
